Increasing demand for a comfortable workplace or constant temperatures for foodstuffs and industrial goods have resulted in an ever-increasing need for refrigeration and air conditioning systems. For example the constant increase in the number of indoor air conditioners has resulted in significantly higher energy use, particularly in the midday hours during the summer months.

Solar powered cooling involves using the high temperature in the middle of the day as the energy provider to generate a cooling effect. When is a solar powered heating system at its most effective? And when is the demand for cooling at its highest? The answer to these two questions is the same: when sunshine is at its most intensive. So, solar energy can be used to cool buildings, since the demand for air conditioning rises and falls more or less parallel to the amount of solar energy available (see graphic).

This System is curently being perfected in Germany. It is hoped that soon it will be available in Australia, the land of the sun!
